Robo Hobo has completed its
mission.

Ben Kackley, Science Instructor, LHS

Robo Hobo has completed its mission. It successfully competed in the
Emerald Coast BEST Robotics competition on Saturday October 27th. Laurel
Hill robot operators and builders, led by Mrs. Joan Mitchell and Mr. Ben
Kackley, did their
best at the event.

Students Ethan Jackson, Richard Dixon, Donald Walker, Dillon Clary and
Aaron Blocker piloted Robo Hobo to five rounds of competition. Scoring was
almost in reach as Robo Hobo picked up a fuel bottle but lost it on its
trek back to the scoring bin. Pit crew and spotters Gage Woods, Grant
Harrison, Stephen Morgan, Shania Purchase, Aaron Steele, Mackenzie Devlin,
Caitlin Clark and Jacob Strickland did a fantastic job of guiding and
fixing Robo Hobo throughout the event.

During the robot competition, the marketing and spirit team were working
full force to promote and support Robo Hobo. The marketing team led by
Mrs. Mildred Strickland and consisting of students; Amber Emerson, Amber
Richey, Ryan Norville, Nyiece Underwood, Shelby Williams and Evy Moore set
up their booth and began showing the Robo Hobo commercial, project
notebook, and pictures. They were also on hand to answer questions,
provide business cards and handouts to generate interest in the product.

The spirit team led by Jenny Stokes and consisting of students; Morgan
Woods, Malisa Kopacz, Jessica Okkema, Claire Gunter, Chloe Talaric, Meagan
Goodwin, Lauren Pool, Aimee Mack and Taylor Harrison did a tremendous job
of cheering on Robo Hobo as it journeyed out onto the Martian surface.
They also showed incredible sportsmanship when they joined other competing
schools in cheer.

The Laurel Hill oral presentation team consisting of CEO Dillon Clary,
Head of Public Relations Nikki Van Winkle, President of Marketing Kaitlyn
McKenzie, Technology Specialist Tony Silva and Chief Engineer Richard
Dixon pulled together, despite some adversity, and really showed what they
were made of. This effort must have shown through to the judges and they
awarded Robo Hobo Inc. with a 3rd place plaque for their tremendous oral
presentation performance.

We would all like to thank the Engineering Notebook team who worked
overtime to get their product to the judges early in the week. This team
led by Ms. Neisha Williams and consisting of students Katie Brown, Adeana
Reeves, Michelle Raite, Nicole Raite, Tiffany Roberts, Kaitlyn Mckenzie,
Amber Richey, Nikki Van Winkle, Chris Jaycocks and Isaiah Raite provided a
professional document that recorded the BEST process of Robo Hobo Inc.

Laurel Hill is extremely proud of all the students, teachers, parents,
mentors and sponsors that dedicated time and effort to this project. It
has been a fantastic experience that all of us will not soon forget.

Special Thanks to General Robert Chedister, Mr. Don Bland, Joel and Nancy
Weekley, Mr. Earl Jernigan, Gulf Power, Publix, Dennis Mitchell of Troy
University, Mr. Kenneth Jackson, Warren Dickerson, Mrs. Debbie Clary, Mrs.
Susan Lowrey-Sexton and Mr. Brandon McSween. Without the help and support
of these people, Laurel Hill Robotics would not have happened. Go Robo
Hobo! We’ll see you again next year!
