Hunter Creek home under construction

Chief Building Inspector Barry Henderson has been working closely with builders and homeowners to insure that construction meets City building code requirements. With new homes being constructed in Hunter Creek and the usual remodeling projects underway, "we want to make sure that we are available to offer help when needed" said Henderson.

The building department has made several steps in the last year to bring a more service oriented attitude to the department.

For more info about building codes call Barry at 652-4441.

The Water Department is proud of their new F350.  During the past twenty years upgrading city equipment has not been a priority. Currently, most of the city's equipment is in a state of disrepair and much of it is not even operational.

The situation was brought to the attention of the City Council by City Manager Tim Bolduc. The Council subsequently created a plan to replace equipment as needed. The first purchase made was a Ford F350 flatbed for the water department. The truck was affordable and has the muscle to haul the new trailers that replaced the dump truck.

The City Council also approved the purchase of a Raider utility vehicle which will be used for small projects and reading meters.

The City Council has just completed the budgeting process, and is currently working on several important projects for the city

The council directed staff to complete an application to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for a FERDAP grant to upgrade Gene Clary Park. (An FERDAP Grant was used in the initial establishment of the park.) The current grant request includes an upgrade to the ball fields and several other much needed projects. While there is no guarantee that the projects will be funded, the staff is hopeful.

City staff will also be reporting to the Council on the condition of the water system. The current system has been working well, and is still meeting the needs of the City. However, with a number of customers being added in the last few years, the system is in need of upgrades. The staff is currently working with the FDEP to secure assistance for some of the projects. The goal is to make the most of every dollar by combine fees from upcoming development with programs available through the FDEP.

The Council regularly meets twice a month on the second and fourth Thursday, at 7:00 pm. Special meetings are scheduled as needed. Drop in; your participation is always welcomed.

New phone number for water department emergencies: 546-0725 - The Council has created an on-call system for water department emergencies. Each week a manager will be on call to quickly address problems that arise. The goal is faster problem resolution and less downtime for customers.
